We didn't make any lunch reservation today in Osaka. So we flipped through the Michelin guide and most of them are full. Then we decided to target those "Michelin Recommends" restaurants where they don't have any stars, but are singled out for great food and great value.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zpsf561360c.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a01_zpsf561360c.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
And that is how we arrived at the doorstep of Bistro Nid d'Oiseau, very near to Shinsaibashi train station. Of course, we didn't make any reservation. But by a stroke of luck, they managed to squeeze us in for an early lunch.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps37d6e0c3.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a02_zps37d6e0c3.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
This is such a small but warm restaurant. Run by a dedicated husband and wife team. Wife comes out to serve the food, while the husband is hard at work in the kitchen.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zps21918d61.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a03_zps21918d61.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Started off our lunch with champagne<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zps8974077f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a05_zps8974077f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The Amuse bouche for our set lunch: grilled chicken and mini soup. We were blown way by how delicious the soup was.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zpsd554c5a2.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a06_zpsd554c5a2.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Fail-proof appetizer: Escargot with garlic. Yummy<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zps47f1ee28.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a04_zps47f1ee28.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
A look at this cosy restaurant<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zps1f9821d6.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a07_zps1f9821d6.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Another appetizer we had: Foie gras terrine with mustard. The Foie gras wasn't heavy, and had a Japanese touch to it. Very light and slightly creamy.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zpsa61af48c.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a08_zpsa61af48c.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Freshly baked breads from the bistro<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a09_zpsfa59363c.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a09_zpsfa59363c.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We also ordered something sweet to drink: Late harvest Riesling sweet wine<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a11_zps13196af2.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a11_zps13196af2.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Here is our main course: Mince beef covered with creamy mashed potato and baked. It's very very hot! But so yummy. It had a slightly crisp outer crust with a creamy meaty filling.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a10_zpsb6083c0b.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a10_zpsb6083c0b.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
For me, I very much prefer this Pork loin and cabbage and pea. The pork loin is marinated in brine, and then roasted in oven till perfection. The stewed cabbage complimented the savoury pork. I will come back again just for this dish.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a12_zps8573c647.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a12_zps8573c647.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Dessert was the same for everyone: Brownie.<br />
<br />
This was quite an unexpected discovery. And we were very impressed with the price, and also the quality and taste of the food here. Reservations highly recommended!<br />

It's the long weekend in Japan, and thousands and thousands of Japanese tourists have decided to do a day trip in Nara, the capital city of Japan before Kyoto. Nara is quite a big place, and most tourists will start their Nara trip from the Nara city which is accessible by both JR and Hankyu trains from Osaka.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zps55a8923f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a01_zps55a8923f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We took the Hankyu trains to Nara city which is much nearer to the famous deer park than the JR station (above). However, we decided to walk to the JR station to have lunch at Hotel Nikko. Wanted to eat at some of the Michelin stars restaurants here, but then it is 1 or 2 train stops away (plus lot's of walking)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps4887c06b.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a02_zps4887c06b.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We didn't make any reservation, and this Icho teppanyaki restaurant in Nara is full to the max. But with a stroke of luck, a big group of diners just left the restaurant and we were fortunate enough to get seats here.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zpsef902ba6.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a03_zpsef902ba6.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Ordered a bottle of Yebisu beer to accompany our lunch.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zpse4bf0d7f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a04_zpse4bf0d7f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The chef is here. Although he speaks very little English, but still we know he is giving all he has to prepare this delicious Teppanyaki lunch for us.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zps3f6c59ed.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a05_zps3f6c59ed.jpg" /></a><br />

<br />
We were surprised that the set also came with sweet sashimi platter.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zpsc684626b.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a08_zpsc684626b.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
And here comes the juicy delicious Kobe beef cubes<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a10_zpsa34c1468.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a10_zpsa34c1468.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Lot's of acrobatic performance while cooking the beef<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a09_zps17223c95.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a09_zps17223c95.jpg" /></a><br />

<br />
A selection of the pan fried vegetables, including the fragrant crispy garlic pieces. The Kobe beef cubes were juicy and flavourful.<br />
<br />

<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a14_zpse662224a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a14_zpse662224a.jpg" /></a><br />

After which, we continued our journey into Nara and saw cute and hungry deers plus the amazing Todaiji Temple which is by far the most amazing temple we have seen in Japan.<br />

<br />
Arashiyama - a beautiful part of western Kyoto. Although Arashiyama is famous world wide for its beautiful temples, river and gardens, but it is relatively less crowded than Kyoto central. Probably because many people choose to go only to central Kyoto. Nevertheless, we made a special trip down to have lunch at this world famous restaurant.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps53761a7c.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a02_zps53761a7c.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We finally arrived at the world famous Kitcho restaurant, and the headquarters of Kitcho is here in Arashiyama, Kyoto. It was opened in 1948, and now helmed by 3rd generation owner-chef Kunio Tokuoka. We are full of anticipation to try out this 3 Michelin stars restaurant, after having try out Kunio's culinary skills in Singapore some time back.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zps69a000bb.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a04_zps69a000bb.jpg" /></a><br />

Our beautiful appetizer: Ikura, cod fish milk(sperm), prawn, egg cake, plant caviar with abalone, kuni crab. The seafood and everything here is so delish.<br />
<br />

<br />
Surprise Surprise! The waitress brought this package of leaves into our room! Open up the leaves basket with fresh bamboo chopsticks. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a13_zps1fedfd2a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a13_zps1fedfd2a.jpg" /></a><br />

<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a14_zps4fc89a7a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a14_zps4fc89a7a.jpg" /></a><br />

<br />
I had many servings of the Koshihikari rice with Matsutake mushrooms! They brought in the whole bucket. Also, they had a spare bucket of white Japanese rice, just in case you want something different. So much attention given to details!<br />
<br />
<br />

Recently we made a special holiday trip to Japan. This time, we toured the Western and Central Japan in 2 weeks, and enjoyed many delicious food and wonderful hospitality in the land of the rising sun. Over the next few posts, I shall be sharing some of our yummy discoveries in Japan.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zps22775d12.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a01_zps22775d12.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
In the heart of Osaka lies one of the oldest shopping mall in the upper end district of Umeda. A landmark mall in Umeda is the Umeda Hankyu Departmental Store, and the ground floor lobby of the departmental store is one of the grandest mall I have seen in Japan.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zpsd97405ef.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a02_zpsd97405ef.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We are here to visit the Bulgari Il Café by Bvlgari. Those who follow our blog will remember that we have been to their Tokyo shop in 2011. We heard that the Osaka one offers something unique, so we are here to find out what it is.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zpsef9dc55d.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a03_zpsef9dc55d.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
A very classy and quiet place. A great place for all to relax and recharge after a day of shopping.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zpsc772fa51.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a04_zpsc772fa51.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />
First timers should order the Blvgari Tea Box. More on the tea box later. Each set comes with a glass coffee or tea (hot or cold).<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zps2bb4b5ed.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a05_zps2bb4b5ed.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
In traditional Japanese style, we are each presented with a beautiful Bvlgari bento box, which resembles a jewellery box. Open up and see what's inside the double layer box.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zps1b33349b.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a06_zps1b33349b.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The top layer is the savoury items, while the second layer are the sweets. They are presented like small beautiful jewels.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zps7402d746.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a08_zps7402d746.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
For today, we have the mini cheese burger, quiche, vegetable sandwich and smoked salmon rolls.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zpsfd290471.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a07_zpsfd290471.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
But everyone here comes for the sweets, and today we have the Bvlgari dessert gems and a Bvlgari chocolate.gem. The Bvlgari tiramisu was really yummy.<br />
<br />
All in all, everything costs 2,900 yen per person. A bit pricey but it's a great experience! Recommended!<br />

Today we are visiting one of the very few pie shops in Singapore.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a01_zps44e58b4f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zps44e58b4f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a01_zps44e58b4f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
It is located along Horne Road, which is also very near to the forever-crowded Chye Seng Huat café. Windowsill Pies is located just next to the Jalan Besar Stadium, inside one of the old shophouse.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a02_zps10ff62c7.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps10ff62c7.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a02_zps10ff62c7.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Here they serve not only pies, but also some savouries which change every 2 weeks. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a03_zps3315099f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zps3315099f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a03_zps3315099f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The pies are displayed in this "garden chiller". Very cute right?<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a04_zps70d03250.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zps70d03250.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a04_zps70d03250.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We had Gryphon Tea, and had our favourite Moscato Blanc flavour, tasted like wine. Went well with the sweet pies.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a05_zpsc76cd9ae.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zpsc76cd9ae.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a05_zpsc76cd9ae.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
First the savouries. It was basically stewed 3 layered pork with crispy deep fried mantou. What was unique is the different condiments. There was the chilli, mango and orange which was slightly spicy and sweet. Next was Shizo and Yuzu, a very Japanese taste bun. Third was spring onions and pistachio pesto. And the last is the milk jam with crispy pork skin. They were all yummy. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a06_zpsef11c551.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zpsef11c551.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a06_zpsef11c551.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
And finally the pies. Our favourite are the Lemon Tart and the Cherry Pie. The pies change every week, and it may be sold out at a certain time. So do be adventurous and try out the different pies available.<br />

We were very impressed with the food in LE Restaurant by Paradise Group that we went there again within a week!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a01_zpsa7b1ccde.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zpsa7b1ccde.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a01_zpsa7b1ccde.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Business is now better, and the restaurant has a nice "zen" feel.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a02_zps54949f3b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps54949f3b.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a02_zps54949f3b.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
This is one of Paradise Group's best dim sum - Steamed rice rolls with preserved turnip fillings (S$6.80). It's so good that now it is available at a few of their Paradise group of restaurants.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a03_zps7fae2fea.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zps7fae2fea.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a03_zps7fae2fea.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Steamed Winter Melon Roll with Yunnan Ham (S$6.80) with Oyster Sauce - Light and tasty<br />

<br />
Steamed Shanghai Pork Dumplings (S$6.80) - The XLB is comparable to those from DTF.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a05_zpsd8693f27.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zpsd8693f27.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a05_zpsd8693f27.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Steamed Glutinous Rice with Chicken (S$6.80 for 2 pieces) - Quite small, and you can finish one in 2 or 3 mouthfuls.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a06_zpsd06cc5c0.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zpsd06cc5c0.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a06_zpsd06cc5c0.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Pork Siew Mai Skewers with Foie Gras (S$16.80 for 4) - Another of our favouries.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a07_zps0c5b131a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zps0c5b131a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a07_zps0c5b131a.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
USDA Beef with Mantou - a spin to the normal pork mantous, here juicy beef are used.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a08_zps86943c6c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zps86943c6c.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a08_zps86943c6c.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Double Boiled Cordycep Flowers Soup (S$12.80 per person) with jumbo dumpling<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a09_zps136387e2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a09_zps136387e2.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a09_zps136387e2.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Baked Escargot with Parmesan Pastry (S$9 for 4 pieces)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a10_zps984ed5f0.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a10_zps984ed5f0.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a10_zps984ed5f0.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Dirty Duck (S$38 for half duck) - Crispy braised duck. Another unique dish. The "dirt" is actually due to the deep frying process after the duck was braised.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a11_zps48dccd27.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a11_zps48dccd27.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a11_zps48dccd27.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Crispy duck is shredded, wrapped in homemade scallion crepe with condiments.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a12_zps9a558a83.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a12_zps9a558a83.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a12_zps9a558a83.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
This is the signature dish here in Le Restaurant - Braised cherry foie gras with red wine (S$26) in cherry sauce. The whole thing looks like cherries but it is actually made of foie gras. The only thing cherry about this is the cherry sauce (which we cannot really taste). Still, it was worth an order.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a13_zps13b6fe1f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a13_zps13b6fe1f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a13_zps13b6fe1f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Stir Fried Angel Hair with Sakura Prawns - We love their angel hair pasta here. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a14_zps2db36b0a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a14_zps2db36b0a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a14_zps2db36b0a.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Roasted lamp chop with red wine and cumin - Another of their signature dish. Some may not like the strong cumin taste, but others may find it acceptable.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a15_zps8b145832.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a15_zps8b145832.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a15_zps8b145832.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Chilled bird's nest on bed of apple and chrysanthemum jelly - A cooling end to a delicious brunch!<br />

The newly revamped Suntec City has reopened with quite a few brand new restaurants, and one of them is Le Restaurant which is by the people behind the Paradise Group of restaurants.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a01_zpsaaebbbac.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zpsaaebbbac.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a01_zpsaaebbbac.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />
At the centre of the restaurant is this light-changing Buddha statue, creating a mystical ambience.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a02_zps718b9cfa.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps718b9cfa.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a02_zps718b9cfa.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The entrance to the restaurant. I think 90% of people who pass by this entrance would have no idea that this place serves Cantonese food and Dim Sum.<br />
<br />
For lunch today, we ordered their S$188 and S$138 set meal, where we can try all the various dishes.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a04_zpsfaecaa06.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zpsfaecaa06.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a04_zpsfaecaa06.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Started off with the Chilled Mexican Abalone with Soy Sesame Dressing. A refreshing appetizer to start off our feast.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a05_zpsd559aa83.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zpsd559aa83.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a05_zpsd559aa83.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Another appetizer was this Hokkaido Scallop Carpaccio with Soy Vinaigrette. Scallop was fresh and sweet.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a03_zpse13afe9b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zpse13afe9b.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a03_zpse13afe9b.jpg" /></a><br />

<br />
Something for the cold weather - Double boiled Porcini fungus and cordyceps flower soup<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a07_zpsac82a7c6.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zpsac82a7c6.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a07_zpsac82a7c6.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Another abalone dish - Pan seared Foie Gras accompanied with braised 6-head abalone<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a08_zpsd63ed672.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zpsd63ed672.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a08_zpsd63ed672.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Red Garoupa poached in lobster broth. You can imagine how sweet the soup is.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a09_zps59a66e2f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a09_zps59a66e2f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a09_zps59a66e2f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Pan fried French duck thigh with Thai salad and shallot. Very interesting dish and very flavourful.<br />
<br />

<br />
Pan seared grade 9 Australian wagyu beef with lemon zest. The beef was juicy.<br />
<br />

<br />
Stir fried angel hair with lobster. Really enjoyed this dish. If I could, I will order one big plate next time!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a11_zps2a0051af.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a11_zps2a0051af.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a11_zps2a0051af.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Chilled noodles with king crab in Teochew broth. This pales in comparison to the former dish.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a12_zps1c6f517b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a12_zps1c6f517b.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a12_zps1c6f517b.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
A look at the interior seats. Although the décor is dark, but the chairs and tables are rather bright.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a13_zps0f82484a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a13_zps0f82484a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a13_zps0f82484a.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
For dessert, we had the Crispy custard lava bun with vanilla gelato<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a14_zps8c786273.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a14_zps8c786273.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a14_zps8c786273.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Sweet temptation of mango sago, avocado cream, Yakult pudding and fruits<br />
<br />

<br />
Adjourned to bar area for house cocktail. Double Happiness : Bombay east gin, kaffir lime.<br />
<br />
The restaurant wasn't crowded when we were there on a weekend lunch. The food is good, but maybe the décor is confusing for some who thinks this is a western food restaurant.<br />

Ever since Lawry's moved from Paragon to Mandarin Gallery, we have not been there. The place looks much bigger than previously, and is more spacious.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a01_zps6205a130.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zps6205a130.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a01_zps6205a130.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We were here for brunch on a weekend, and as it was raining there were not much diners here.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a02_zps65ef2e8c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps65ef2e8c.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a02_zps65ef2e8c.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
For brunch, we ordered the Signature Prime Rib Brunch (S$88) and the Weekend Brunch (S$88)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a03_zpsf9ca21d0.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zpsf9ca21d0.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a03_zpsf9ca21d0.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We were recommended this Sake MIO (S$25 per bottle), which is a kind of sparkling sake. This a very delicious and easy to drink sake. Almost like a soft drink, but with the fragrance and taste of sake. Highly recommended.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a04_zps312defee.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zps312defee.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a04_zps312defee.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The famous original spinning salad, where the server keeps spinning the metal bowl to "spin" out any remaining water from the lettuce. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a05_zps36bc3a2a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zps36bc3a2a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a05_zps36bc3a2a.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Pretty good. The lettuce was fresh and crunchy. I enjoyed their salad dressing too.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a06_zps4f94b5a9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zps4f94b5a9.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a06_zps4f94b5a9.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Also ordered a bottle of Vecchia Storia Moscato (S$95 per bottle) to go with the steak.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a07_zpsecd93913.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zpsecd93913.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a07_zpsecd93913.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Next comes the soup - Cream of Black Truffle Mushroom with Garlic Toast (for Weekend Brunch)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a08_zps567c0718.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zps567c0718.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a08_zps567c0718.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Before we knew, the chef rolled out the special portable carving station where the beef is freshly sliced in front of diners. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a09_zps1810d52d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a09_zps1810d52d.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a09_zps1810d52d.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Yorkshire Pudding, which is baked in small skillet until puffy and golden brown (for Prime Rib Brunch)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a10_zps0c2f8aa7.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a10_zps0c2f8aa7.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a10_zps0c2f8aa7.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Sides - Idaho Mashed Potatoes, Workshire Pudding and the Lawry's Cut (285g for Prime Rib Brunch). Beef was juicy and we had it medium done. It may not be as good as the popular "Wagyu" grade of beef served elsewhere, but the beef here remained juicy and full of "beefiness".<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a11_zpsbc8ef1ed.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a11_zpsbc8ef1ed.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a11_zpsbc8ef1ed.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Grilled Wagyu Quarter Pounder Burger (for Weekend Brunch). We find this so-so only.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a12_zps56e2c94f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a12_zps56e2c94f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a12_zps56e2c94f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Dessert Sampler (for Weekend Brunch) - Strawberry English Trifle, Blueberry Yoghurt & Lychee Sorbet.<br />
<br />
This place is great for a lazy brunch or relaxing dinner. Good service and rather okay steaks.<br />

Had our first dinner at Taratata Bistrot not too long ago. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a01_zps434ce0f9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zps434ce0f9.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a01_zps434ce0f9.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
This bistriot has opened for quite some time over at the ever changing Keong Saik Road which saw many restaurants come and go over the years.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a02_zps3ff81c95.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps3ff81c95.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a02_zps3ff81c95.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Thanks to the checkered floors, the entire restaurant has a "Parisian" feel to it. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a03_zps0376bf8b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zps0376bf8b.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a03_zps0376bf8b.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Started off our dinner with the Crab salad with mayonnaise and pomelo. Quite refreshing because of the pomelo. They were rather generous with the crab meat too.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a04_zpsbadaa0f3.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zpsbadaa0f3.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a04_zpsbadaa0f3.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
French onion soup - Not too salty, and it was pipping hot. Really hot.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a05_zpsb109b8f1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zpsb109b8f1.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a05_zpsb109b8f1.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Pan seared foie gras with caramelized pear - No visit to any French restaurant would be complete without having some foie gras.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a06_zps49410131.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zps49410131.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a06_zps49410131.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Ordered a glass of red wine, but find the wine only so-so<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a07_zpsc5f41435.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zpsc5f41435.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a07_zpsc5f41435.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Duck confit - The skin is not very crispy, but the duck meat was juicy and flavourful.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a08_zps6013a4f4.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zps6013a4f4.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a08_zps6013a4f4.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Kurobuta pork tenderloin -The pork was a little bit dry, but still acceptable.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a09_zps7314c346.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a09_zps7314c346.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a09_zps7314c346.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Apple pie - We didn't like this dessert. The "crust" was too dry and too much.<br />

Been a long time since we had lunch at Summer Pavilion over at Ritz Carlton. Summer Pavilion has always been one of the Chinese restaurant with excellent service.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zpsbea1fe8d.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a01_zpsbea1fe8d.jpg" /></a><br />

<br />
Summer Pavilion has a very homely feeling to it. The restaurant isn't too big, and the service is great.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zps8a0fe68a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a03_zps8a0fe68a.jpg" /></a><br />

<br />
Steamed rice skin rolls with shredded pork, mushroom and sze chuan vegetables (S$6 for 3 pieces) - Something different from the normal chee cheong fun. A healthier version. Taste wise, I prefer the unhealthy ones. Hehe<br />
<br />

<br />
Poached live sea whelk (S$S$25 per 100g - S$125 for 500g) - Everyone was looking at our table when it was served. I guess not many people will order seafood for lunch. Really glad to have ordered this, as the meat was sweet and tender.<br />
<br />

Everyone who like eating beef knows that Japanese grade beef are the world's best. And that is why a Japanese restaurant serving steaks and hamburgs would usually not go wrong.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zpsc151d199.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a01_zpsc151d199.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Heard many good reviews about the juicy hamburgs served here in Masa, so we made our way down here on a Sunday early evening. Most of the diners here are Japanese, but the service staffs are locals. One unique characteristic here is that you keep hearing the "slapping" sound from the kitchen, and apparently that is the sound made when the chef is trying to "slap" the beef hamburg into shape.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps0ea3392a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a02_zps0ea3392a.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Iced-Matcha Tea<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zpsb0ed0114.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a03_zpsb0ed0114.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Nama Yasai (S$12) - Stick Vegetables with Soy Bean Paste Dip Sauce. Since we are having lot's of meat later, it will be appropriate to have some veges as starters.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zps531e4af7.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a04_zps531e4af7.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Shrimp Ajillo (S$12) - Sautéed Shrimp in Olive Oil with Garlic and Red Chilli. We were scared off by the oil. Too much olive oil here.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zpsc173f326.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a05_zpsc173f326.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Baked Onion Soup (S$14). It was very hearty. I think they did a wonderful version of the onion soup.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zps38b9ea1c.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a06_zps38b9ea1c.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Rice (S$3)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zpse1564a2e.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a07_zpse1564a2e.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Original Sauce - the sauce had a tangy kick to it.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zpsc21d3978.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a08_zpsc21d3978.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Masa Combo (S$58) - Hamburg Steak and Bite-Sized cube cut steak. This is the smaller 200g hamburg steak with steak cube. The steak was pretty tender, but the hamburg stole the show.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a09_zpse6049d93.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a09_zpse6049d93.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
MASA Hamburg (S$38 for 300g) - Here is another order of the 300g hamburg. As you can see, the outer layer of the hamburg is slightly crisp and cooked, while the middle is really juicy and pink. This got to be best hamburg we had ever. It was so juicy and flavourful. Highly recommended to all who love Japanese beef hamburg. This would really put all hamburger restaurants to shame.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a10_zps2e37666a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a10_zps2e37666a.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Wasanbon Panna Cotta (S$8) - We were too full, but insisted on ordering dessert. And we didn't regret. This was creamy and had a nice caramel syrup.<br />

Rangoon Road, which is near Farrer Park MRT station, has been seeing many new cafes and eateries popping up.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zps4b60a861.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a01_zps4b60a861.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
One of them is Jewel Café and Bar. It is usually rather quiet on weekdays, but come weekends, this place is packed for its popular weekend brunch.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zpsdc1d619a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a03_zpsdc1d619a.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
A cute sketch hanging outside of the café.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zpsd16bab4a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a02_zpsd16bab4a.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The chef here was formerly from One Rochester and Les Amis. We visited this café twice. First time the food was really good, but on our second visit this time, we find that the food was not as good. Probably it was the ever-busy weekend brunch and everything was cooked in a rush.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zps86341f65.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a04_zps86341f65.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
French Onion Soup (S$8) with a cheesy crust. We like the pippin hot onion soup which was full of ingredients. The cheesy crust added some different texture and flavours to the soup.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zps9d996b04.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a05_zps9d996b04.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Portobello White Mushroom Soup (S$9) with white truffle oil - The is the 2nd time we had the mushroom soup. Unfortunately, the soup wasn't as good as what we had previously during weekday dinner. A bit too watery.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zps51e27a18.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a06_zps51e27a18.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Umami Prawn Capellini (S$22) with grilled prawns, crustacean oil topped with special Umami "magic" dust. The noodles was firm and the prawns were fresh, but they could have added more flavours to this pasta dish.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zps435fae8a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a07_zps435fae8a.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Port & Blue Cheese Burger (S$20) - Onion caramelized in port reduction, chunks of aged stilton and secret "magic" dust mix. Quite an ordinary burger, but the fries was crispy and good.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zps022b46b1.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a08_zps022b46b1.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
For desserts, we had the Brioche French Toasts (S$13) with caramelized strawberry, blueberries and mascarpone. We find the French toasts rather average, and actually left of it untouched. So far, one of our favourite version of French toast is from Dean and Deluca.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a09_zpsd53d1588.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a09_zpsd53d1588.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
After 2 visits here, we find that the standard of the food here fluctuates. On our first visit, the food was very good, but the 2nd visit it was only average. A bit inconsistent. <br />

<br />
Although there is quite a number of Hokkien Chinese in Singapore, but most of the Chinese restaurants located here are Cantonese restaurants. Only a few traditional Hokkien restaurants continues to flourish today, and Quan Xiang Yuan is one of the few left.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zpsa4a4b2dd.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a01_zpsa4a4b2dd.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Started our Hokkien dinner with a platter of crispy prawn rolls mix and match with tangy pork liver slices. The pork over was tender and did not have any "internal organs" taste. The tangy sauce went well with the liver. Prawn Fritters (Har Chor) was crispy on the outside, and juicy in the inside.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps59474973.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a02_zps59474973.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Like the big bowl of Fish Maw Soup. Chokeful of ingredients and can fill about 8 bowls.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zps4191c47e.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a03_zps4191c47e.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Simple Chinese spinach with minced garlic.<br />

<br />
<br />
Another of their star dish - Braised Pork with Lotus Buns. The pork was really tender and went well with the soft lotus buns.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zps4c0f0d3d.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a05_zps4c0f0d3d.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We also enjoyed the Yam Ring with minced prawns and chicken.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zpsd5456208.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1163.photobucket.com/albums/q558/sparklingorstill2/a06_zpsd5456208.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
A very old-school traditional Hokkien restaurant. Price is really reasonable (one of the cheapest) and the whole place is air-con. Reservations on weekends are a must.<br />

I think after 2 brunches at Waterfall Café, it's fair to say that they are one of the best place for weekend brunch. After the previous Sunday brunch buffet, we are back here on a Saturday afternoon for their ala carte brunch.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a01_zps645cfc1c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zps645cfc1c.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a01_zps645cfc1c.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Waterfall Café has a very inviting entrance, where fresh produces breads are laid out on the counters.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a02_zps34b3d419.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps34b3d419.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a02_zps34b3d419.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Although it is called Waterfall Café, but the waterfall is actually not very visible from the restaurant. It is located just outside of it.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a03_zpsfb89c28e.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zpsfb89c28e.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a03_zpsfb89c28e.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
But of course, diners here are treated to a different view, the swimming pool.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a04_zps44377060.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zps44377060.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a04_zps44377060.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Freshly baked bread are served, and the bread comes in 4 different varieties.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a06_zps4f90fd3a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zps4f90fd3a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a06_zps4f90fd3a.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
A shot of the group dining room.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a05_zps59cf145f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zps59cf145f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a05_zps59cf145f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
A bottle of tap water is placed on each table.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a07_zpse2eb9319.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zpse2eb9319.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a07_zpse2eb9319.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
For starters, we had the Pan seared foie gras, apricot and almond chutney, cucumber and arugula, vanilla sherry dressing (S$26). Foie Gras was creamy and not too oily.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a08_zps9c926e19.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zps9c926e19.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a08_zps9c926e19.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Jerusalem artichoke velouté, poached cranberries, toasted hazelnut, black trumpet mushroom (S$14). The soup was served warm and had a very unique and delicious taste.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a09_zps3a7f6140.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a09_zps3a7f6140.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a09_zps3a7f6140.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
This is one of my favourite salad - Organic quinoa salad, baby spinach, red cabbage and raisin with roasted lamb rump (S$25). I like the contrasting texture of the crunchy quinoa with the juicy cabbage and spinach salad. The dressing was good too.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a10_zps9d2a1d15.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a10_zps9d2a1d15.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a10_zps9d2a1d15.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Roasted barramundi, pink peppercorn and Indian coriander gastrique, steam bok choy, pequillo peppers and grape (S$30) - Fish was very fresh.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a11_zps03006d90.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a11_zps03006d90.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a11_zps03006d90.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Grilled trout, steamed spring vegetable fricassée, lemon relish (S$25) - This grilled trout is a feast to the eyes and the mouth. Very colourful and full of contrasting flavours.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a12_zpsb47179a8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a12_zpsb47179a8.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a12_zpsb47179a8.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We felt a little let down by this dessert. Wasn't as good as their mains and appetizers. Kiwi and strawberry feuillantine, pistachio chiboust cream and passion fruit coulis (S$10)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a13_zps175d77fe.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a13_zps175d77fe.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a13_zps175d77fe.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
But we very much enjoyed the Blueberry cobbler with grains of paradise and warm almond crumble with vanilla ice cream (S$14). Especially when mixing together the warm crumble together with the cold vanilla ice cream.<br />

A few months ago, we wanted to have brunch at Club Street Social. But there were a long queue outside and we decided to come back again. This time, the crowd is much lesser, and we manage to get a table immediately.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a01_zpsb1e6690b.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zpsb1e6690b.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a01_zpsb1e6690b.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The whole café / bistro is kind of what you will find in New York. A very relaxed informal place to find your drink and some brunch.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a02_zpsac8904cd.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zpsac8904cd.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a02_zpsac8904cd.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Started off our brunch with a Salad - Watermelon, Tomato, Ricotta (S$14). The colours were very striking. Red and white. Watermelon was sweet and we enjoyed the tangy tomatoes and creamy cheese.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a04_zps72929346.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zps72929346.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a04_zps72929346.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Beef Broth + Porcini Ravioli (S$12). A bit too salty. Will skip this the next time.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a03_zps0a096f9f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zps0a096f9f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a03_zps0a096f9f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Scrambled Eggs, Fontina, Chives (S$12) with additional Pork Sausage (S$3). Thumbs up for the creamy scrambled eggs. The toasts and sausage were quite forgettable.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a05_zpsc161ed73.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zpsc161ed73.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a05_zpsc161ed73.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Panini - Pan Seared Lobster, Avocado and Yuzu Mayo (S$28). If I were to return to Club Street Social, it will be for their lobster Panini. It was chokeful of sweet lobster chunks, and mixed with creamy avocado. The Yuzu mayo added some tangy flavour to this wonderful Panini sandwich. Thumbs up.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a06_zps5330c334.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zps5330c334.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a06_zps5330c334.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Milkbar Salted Caramel S'more (S$8) - I think we ordered too much carbo bread items. We couldn't finish this in the end.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a07_zpsf6f1c904.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zpsf6f1c904.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a07_zpsf6f1c904.jpg" /></a><br />

Berries with Vanilla Mascarpone (S$9) - And we find this so so only.<br />

One of our favourite place for Dim Sum is at Taste Paradise. Most of the items are of good quality and taste. But one problem is that Dim Sum is only served during lunch time.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a01_zpsfd3c2b18.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zpsfd3c2b18.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a01_zpsfd3c2b18.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Imagine our surprise when we found out that its sister restaurant Canton Paradise is now serving the same dim sum for dinner too. In fact, it's whole day "breakfast" dim sum.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a02_zps5b2f53ae.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps5b2f53ae.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a02_zps5b2f53ae.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We were there for dinner, and ordered their double boiled soup which was of good value.<br />

<br />
The chee cheong fun with fragrant chai por is the unique dim sum item here. It is very very delicious, much better than the normal prawn chee cheong fun. Try it.<br />

Other than dim sum, we also ordered their fried Ee-Fu noodles. Nice wok hei.<br />
<br />

<br />
We find the stir fry long beans with minced pork quite ordinary.<br />
<br />

Many hotels in Singapore live to pamper diners with brunch buffet, and St Regis is no different. The hotel has not 1, but 3 different brunches.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a01_zps12ad8013.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zps12ad8013.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a01_zps12ad8013.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We are here today for the Italian brunch at LaBrezza next to the pool. Everyone here looks so relaxed, even the statues!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a02_zpsc69783e8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zpsc69783e8.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a02_zpsc69783e8.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The buffet has not as many items as other brunch. But most of the stuffs here are of better quality. And this means that you get to eat every single item on the buffet table.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a03_zpsad6d074a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zpsad6d074a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a03_zpsad6d074a.jpg" /></a><br />

<br />
<br />
Everything here is just so colourful and fresh. A great start to the weekend.<br />

<br />
Besides the buffet dishes, there were unlimited ala-carte dishes which are made-to-order. We like the Eggs Napoli - Poached egg and tomato on grilled chiabatta bread with pesto and mozzarella<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s870.photobucket.com/user/sparklingorstill/media/a08_zps99e47c40.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zps99e47c40.jpg" border="0" src="http://i870.photobucket.com/albums/ab269/sparklingorstill/a08_zps99e47c40.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
One of the best carbonara we ever had, cooked with eggs and pancetta. Portions are kept small so you can try everything on their menu.<br />
<br />

It is always a joy to visit the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay. And the whole dome was exceptionally beautiful during the recently concluded Tulip festival.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a01_zps3da0132f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zps3da0132f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a01_zps3da0132f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Lot's of beautiful real tulips on display, and we were there on the 2nd last day where all of the flowers were in full bloom.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a02_zpsb4f858b8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zpsb4f858b8.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a02_zpsb4f858b8.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Made reservations at Pollen for a leisure afternoon tea before going for the flower tour.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a03_zps295ddaba.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zps295ddaba.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a03_zps295ddaba.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
There were 3 of us, and we had a choice of 3 different teas which were refillable. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a04_zps0bd7357f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zps0bd7357f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a04_zps0bd7357f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The Afternoon Tea (S$38++ per person) was one of the better deals here. But as it is an afternoon tea, the variety and quantity were quite small. And it's non-refillable too.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a05_zpsfb76cec2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zpsfb76cec2.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a05_zpsfb76cec2.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Gibassier with homemade jam. We like the crispy crust.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a06_zps73443d80.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zps73443d80.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a06_zps73443d80.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Sandwiches (Smokes salmon + chive cream cheese, cured ham + mustard pickles, organic egg mayo + spring onions, Corn fed chicken + tarragon mayo)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a07_zpsd6781ff2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zpsd6781ff2.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a07_zpsd6781ff2.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Éclairs and tea cakes. The macarons were one of the better ones we had here in Singapore. Tea cups a bit too dry.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a08_zps5c096554.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zps5c096554.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a08_zps5c096554.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We also ordered some additional items, such as this Half dozen "Fine de Claire" oysters with shallot vinegar (S$37)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a09_zpse4726730.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a09_zpse4726730.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a09_zpse4726730.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
And the Crispy fried baby squid with chilli and lime and piperade sauce (S$17). The squid was crispy, but a little bit tough.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a10_zps378fe758.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a10_zps378fe758.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a10_zps378fe758.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Grilled white peach, bresola salad with balsamic dressing (S$28)<br />

Au Petit Salut is quite an institution in Singapore. It has been around for years, and its current location in Dempsey has attracted quite a group of loyal diners.<br />

<br />
We had their special Passion Fruit Cocktail (S$12 per glass)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a03_zpsfca59921.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zpsfca59921.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a03_zpsfca59921.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The bread rolls were fantastic. It was warm and full of the "freshly baked" flavours. They were also very generous in refilling our bread basket.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a02_zps17453e25.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps17453e25.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a02_zps17453e25.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
As it is located in Dempsey, the whole surrounding is very laid back, just like in the countryside.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a04_zps39408945.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zps39408945.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a04_zps39408945.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We ordered 2 special set lunch (S$36+ per person)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a05_zps578376dd.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zps578376dd.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a05_zps578376dd.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
First up was the starter of Baked Burgundy snails, bone marrow, garlic and parsley butter. A bit too salty, but the saltiness was covered by the fragrance of the garlic.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a06_zps64f71ea5.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zps64f71ea5.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a06_zps64f71ea5.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The next appetizer was the Flaked smoked haddock, beetroot, Hibiscus purée and Ko Giku flowers<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a07_zpsde768848.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zpsde768848.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a07_zpsde768848.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We selected a special main for our set lunch. Artic Char fish, crushed violet potatoes, bacon and horseradish (add S$12). The fish was tender and juicy.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a08_zps4eb94998.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zps4eb94998.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a08_zps4eb94998.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
French duck leg confit, nashi pear, butternut pumpkin and vanilla purée and Verjuice (add S$12). Duck confit was good, however the skin was not crispy enough.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a09_zps2d9bb02d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a09_zps2d9bb02d.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a09_zps2d9bb02d.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Dessert was the Soya Cheesecake, vanilla crumble and Jasmine sorbet<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a10_zps3a589662.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a10_zps3a589662.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a10_zps3a589662.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
and another off-menu item: Raspberry and lychee sabayon with Rose sorbet (add S$4)<br />
<br />

Crystal Jade Golden Palace at Paragon is forever packed and full, especially during weekends. So it was quite a surprise to know that they had empty seats during weekday lunch recently.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a01_zpsac1e2918.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zpsac1e2918.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a01_zpsac1e2918.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
It's quite dark inside, but bright enough to see what you are eating. Service was polite and prompt.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a02_zpse95e0a3e.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zpse95e0a3e.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a02_zpse95e0a3e.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Here are some of the food we ordered for lunch:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a03_zps1903b31d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zps1903b31d.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a03_zps1903b31d.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Steamed minced pork with salted fish - This went really well with white rice. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a04_zps9e922784.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zps9e922784.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a04_zps9e922784.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Steamed sea perch with cordyceps flower, mushroom and dried orange peel - Another excellent dish to accompany white rice. The dried orange peel helped to get rid of any fishy smell.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a05_zpsc71b4418.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zpsc71b4418.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a05_zpsc71b4418.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Sea cucumber stuffed with minced kurobuta pork and prawn paste - The fillings were moist and smooth.<br />
<br />

Those who have not been to Sentosa Cove would not have recognised this place. In just over a few years, this former reclaim land is now home to many rich and famous Singaporeans and overseas residents, with many owning a yatch or two..<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a01_zps19c9027a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zps19c9027a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a01_zps19c9027a.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />
The restaurant we are going today is Sabio, which first opened along Duxton Hill. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a03_zps137caac9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zps137caac9.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a03_zps137caac9.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Their branch at Sentosa has a really relaxed seaside resort feel.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a02_zps32d1c538.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps32d1c538.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a02_zps32d1c538.jpg" /></a><br />

<br />
As with all visits to most Spanish restaurants, it is mandatory for us to order a jug of refreshing Red Sangria (S$46 per jug).<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a05_zps85276479.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a05_zps85276479.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a05_zps85276479.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
First came the Tomato bread (S$6)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a06_zps79215490.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zps79215490.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a06_zps79215490.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We like the Baby sardine in olive oil (S$19). Delicious to nibble on. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a07_zpsffbae28f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zpsffbae28f.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a07_zpsffbae28f.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The drinks went well with Spanish ham and sausage (S$27)<br />
<br />

<br />
One of our favourite dish here - Patatas alioli. Fried potato with garlic mayonnaise (S$9). The potatoes were crispy on the outside, and fluffy and smooth in the inside.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a09_zps19325b5d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a09_zps19325b5d.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a09_zps19325b5d.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Sea scallop with sparkling white wine sauce (S$16)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a10_zpseae0bbd1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a10_zpseae0bbd1.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a10_zpseae0bbd1.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Chicken skewer in garlic queso manchego (S$16). The chicken was tender and juicy. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a11_zpseaac1df9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a11_zpseaac1df9.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a11_zpseaac1df9.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
La Medula (S$19) - Grilled bone marrow, toasted baguette with Serano Butter<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a12_zps42744b0c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a12_zps42744b0c.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a12_zps42744b0c.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
La Carne (S$39.00) Grilled ribeye (300g), salsa de Tomate Picante, grilled pinentos. I think we over-ordered and could not finish the food. But the ribeye, although not of good quality cut, was okay for us,<br />

When we have cravings for crispy fried chicken, we will always think of 4 Fingers Crispy Chicken. We are unsure if this BonChon chicken is related to the 4 Fingers BonChon over at ION Orchard, but both shops basically sell the same thing - fried chicken.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a01_zps07c49470.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zps07c49470.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a01_zps07c49470.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
We were here at around 9pm on a weekend, and the dinner crowd is almost gone. Hence, the service was prompt and our fried chicken came in just 15 minutes.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a02_zps76c19497.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a02_zps76c19497.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a02_zps76c19497.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
As we had a terrifying experience of the spicy sauce crispy chicken at 4 Fingers, we decided to skip that and ordered the Soy Garlic, which is essentially Korean soya sauce (a bit sweet) with a rather weak garlic taste. The crispy chicken were really good. We had wings and drumsticks, and we thought the drumsticks were rather dry. So do order the wings next time.<br />
<br />
Those who want an alternative to KFC / Popeyes / Texas, may want to try this the next time.<br />

The Japanese are just number one when it comes to mixing innovation, fun and a bit of cuteness. And you can find all of these in Genki Sushi, which returns to Singapore a few months ago with 2 restaurants at Orchard Central, and at the newly revamped Chinatown Point.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a01_zpsc34e53fc.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a01_zpsc34e53fc.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a01_zpsc34e53fc.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
The crowd puller here, is no doubt the Shinkansen delivery system. Unlike in other conveyor belt sushi restaurants where the sushi rotates till god-knows-when, here the food is sent directly to the customer's table using a super high speed moving "tray". It's really cute and fun. But please remember to press the flashing green button to send the "train" or "car" back to the kitchen!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a03_zps37fda5bd.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a03_zps37fda5bd.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a03_zps37fda5bd.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Unlike other sushi chains, here diners are given one big bottle of instant green tea powder. One small spoonful is more than enough for a big cup of matcha. So do be careful when adding the powder into the cups.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a04_zps28706cc1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a04_zps28706cc1.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a04_zps28706cc1.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Grilled corn sushi. The grilled corn was sweet. Quite good.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a07_zps28b5bace.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a07_zps28b5bace.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a07_zps28b5bace.jpg" /></a><br />

<br />
At Genki Sushi, there is no need to wave for attention from the service staffs. All tables are given one iPad and you basically send your orders electronically. How efficient and fuss-free is that.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a06_zps15df8a08.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a06_zps15df8a08.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a06_zps15df8a08.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
One of their best sellers - Tempura prawns sushi. The prawns are much bigger than the rice!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s808.photobucket.com/user/chilliornochilli/media/a08_zps40b24e1c.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo a08_zps40b24e1c.jpg" border="0" src="http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz10/chilliornochilli/a08_zps40b24e1c.jpg" /></a><br />

The kids really enjoy seeing the trains moving up and down. But please be careful so that your kids will not "lang-gah" with the trains!<br />

Diners are encouraged to insert the empty plates into their plate returning system found at every table. There is a surprise for that. which I will reveal later.<br />

As I was saying, there will be a surprise if you insert the plates into the plate returning system. After every 8 or 10 plates returned, you will have a chance to play the "jackpot" on the iPad. The jackpot game automatically appears on your iPad after you have fulfilled the number of returned plates. We didn't win anything, but you can win a 10% discount on your meal.<br />
