La Villa @ River Valley Road

I think many people pass this place when they drive, but wil not take note of what is inside. I am referring to this open space next to the former Time's House along River Valley Road. Behind the open grass field and car park stands the former River Valley Primary School.

La Villa, whose owner also operates the Senso Group, serves some of the best Italian home made cuisines in this area. It is a place where you want to dine with family and friends. Although the place is large, but it packs in the crowd quickly during peak hours. So best is to call to reserve.

After some table hunting, we settled for a table in the centre of the restaurant. Free ice water is available for all diners.

Bread basket - I don't remember anything nice about their bread basket.

We anticipated lot's of heavy items for our mains, so to balance things off, we ordered the signature La Villa Salad (S$19) with Feta Cheese, Egg, Black Olives, Tomatoes, Smoked Turkey, Tuna, Ham cubes and Red Chicory. The salad was quite a big portion, and best shared among 2 to 3 diners.

After flipping through the wine menu for a while, we settled for a bottle of Prosecco (S$60 per bottle).

The Prosecco wine was great for a warm sleepy afternoon.

Cappellini - Angel Hair Pasta with Lobster Ragout "Sardinia" style (S$20 for small). The small portion, is not small at all. Swirls and swirls of Italian "bee hoon" which has soaked up the yummy sauce and lobster meat were presented in a large white shallow bowl. At this price, I find the pasta pretty well executed.

I was drooling after reading a review of their Funghi pizza. And I was not disappointed. The Funghi - Tomato, Mozzarella, Mushrooms, Pancetta Ham, Egg, Truffle (S$22), was one of the best pizza I have tasted for a long long time The addition of the comforting and runny egg in the centre with hints of truffle taste, plus all the ingredients makes this pizza yummy. Would recommend first timers to order this pizza here.

Something weird is that our Soup of the day (S$16) actually was the last to arrive. Perhaps they have forgotten our soup before we reminded them again.

What's great here are their pizza. Just go for it the next time you drop by here.
