The Coastal Settlement @ Netheravon Road

Was reading a magazine a few weeks ago and found out that there is this "Dempsey" kind of place at the Changi Village area. So we embarked on a journey to find this place. It is actually located just opposite of the main entrance of Hendon Camp (also known as Commando Camp) in Changi. However, because of this "Netheravon Road" address, we had to use GPS to guide us there.

When we arrived, we decided to order a Kronenbourg Blanc (S$8 for half pint) to cool us down on this hot afternoon. The "winter" season has left us, and now we are seeing "spring" time in Singapore, and the weather is definitely getting warmer and dryer.

The Coastal Settlement is located at the fringe of a lush tropical seaside forest area, and it's trees and more trees surrounding this lone building.

The insides definitely reminded me of Dempsey Village, with lot's of cool iconic stuffs from the past displayed all around the restaurant. As they are the sister restaurant of CM-PB (from Dempsey), expect to find a similar vibe here.

From the menu, the food looks rather "PS Cafe-ish". As it was a post-lunch pre-dinner moment, we had some finger foods and desserts this time. First was this Wagyu Cube (S$22). We enjoyed this as the beef was tender, and there was this yummy dressing sauce which made the vegetables quite tasty.

The same could not be said for the Crispy Prawns (S$16). It wasn't the freshest (and sweetest) prawns we expected. A rather forgettable dish.

The warm weather warrants another cool drink. This time one of their special cocktail - Afternoon Bliss (S$25).

It's dessert time. The Butter Pudding (S$12) was creamy but we would have preferred it served warmed.

Cheese Cake (S$12) had a mixed reaction. It borders between pretty good (due to the crusty base) to mediocre (quality of cheese used).

We saw the staff serving the Millefeuille (S$16), and we knew we had to order this too. As this was an off-menu dessert, it's always helpful to ask them if there is any off-menu items today. The pastry crust was okay, but as we had over-ordered desserts, all the 3 desserts tasted almost similar to us by now.

If you stay in the east (Pasir Ris, Tampines area), this place is worth a visit if you are feeling lazy to travel to Dempsey to experience that laid back feeling. The food is not really great but overall ambience surely scores points. The price is relatively friendly too.

(PS: Do come here only off-peak such as 3pm or 9pm as it could get really crowded + slow services at peak hours)
