Unknown to quite a lot of diners, Tetsu Japanese Restaurant at Tanglin Mall is a subsidary of Food Junction group which runs a chain of food courts in Singapore. So is the food here worthy of the price? We find out tonight.
The decor at Tetsu is quite good. Non of the food court looks, and it is actually quite spacious for a cosy meal.
Most diners will order Hot Green Tea (S$2.20) when having a meal at Japanese restaurant, as hot tea goes well with almost all Japanese food.
Kobe Beef Charcoal Grill (S$38) - We were quite disappointed with the marbling of the beef. They were really small too.
Taste is quite ok after grilling it ourselves over the charcoal grill. However, I am not sure if the portion is worth the price.
5 pieces Combination Katsu (S$22.80) - Though good, but the Katsu at Tonkichi wins hands down. If Tetsu wants to attract more customers, they should really learn from Tonkichi on how they fry their food, using quality ingredients and also cleaner frying oil.
Ebi Katsu Curry Udon (S$19.80) - Curry sauce was quite good. Udon was not and not too mushy. For my Ebi Katsu, the version at Tonkichi is better.
Verdict is that since Tonkichi serves much better Katsu sets at almost similar prices, Tetsu really needs to improve on its Katsu dishes since this is their signature offerings in the restaurant.
