Contemporary Melting Pot & Bar (CM-PB) @ Dempsey Rd

Just when you thought you have combed through the entire Dempsey area, a new stretch of restaurant and lifestyle shops started to pop up at this quiet corner of Dempsey.

6ix and 7even @ Dempsey was previously a stretch of old furniture shops before being refurbished into 2 rows of new eateries in this hip district. It's actually located near where Jumbo seafood is, but a bit further in.

By now, many people would have known that Dempsey Hill is formerly a military base. But not everyone knows which unit is houses previously.

Well, it was the former home of CMPB (Central Manpower Base, the 4 letter word all NSF and NSmen will never forget. CMPB was here (Tanglin Camp) before being moved to its current home at Depot Road. Before Tanglin, CMPB was located at Pearl's Hill then to Kallang.

So what better way to remember its roots than restaurant and bar named CM-PB (here means Contemporary Melting Pot & Bar).

Ordered the Fountain of Love fruit juice which contains fresh Orange, Green Apple and Rock Melon juice.

And in case you are wondering, free ice water is also available for all diners.

They have a well-equipped bar with many kinds of liquors and beers. You name it, they got it.

Vongole Soup (S$10) - I like the creamy soup base. The shells were also fresh.

Kudos to CM-PB for creating a better version of the Mussels than Brussel Mussels. Here, the Mussels & Toasts (S$24) is freshly cooked in a Parma Ham cream stock, and served with crispy warm toast. There are other stocks to choose from such as the White Wine, Tom Yum and even Curry Herb Butter. But their signature base is still the Parma Ham cream.

The mussels are fresh without any fishy stinky smell or taste. A wonderful pipping hot pot of home cooked goodness on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Foie Gras lover may want to give this Foie Gras burger (S$34) a miss. But this burger will satisfy ordinary burger lovers. Made with 50g Foie Gras, 150g Homemade Wagyu Beef Patty (very juicy and flavourful), Caramelized Onions, Fries (with Paprika spices. Yum!) and Mesclun Salad, this version beats Carl Junior's burgers hands down.

In case you are in a mood for a puff you can find cigars and whisky at the bar counter too.

In line with World Cup fever, we had The Malva Pudding (S$12). A Classic South African pudding drizzled with Orange Jack Daniel sauce with a side of French Vanilla bean ice-cream. We suspect the Vanilla bean ice-cream is from Waitrose.

As it is baking hot outside, only 2 diners were found sitting outside. But come evening, the al-fresco area will be full of people chilling out. Doesn't this corner looks like some pubs in Bali?

Of course, there are many other choices withint the 6ix & 7even cluster in Dempsey, in case SAF haters do not want to come near anything having to do with army. We heard that the former head chef at Geylang's Shatin Kitchen is now the proud owner of Grand Hong Kong which is just a few units away from CM-PB. That, will be another review for another day.
